Frequently Asked Questions

Program & Philosophy

What sets Phantom Hoops Club apart from other club or travel basketball programs?

1

Phantom Hoops Club is built on high-major standards, intentional program structure, and elite player development. Rather than simply collecting tournament trophies, our focus is on long-term athletic and character development. Led by former Division I collegiate coaches and experienced administrators, we bring structured college-level skill development, tactical preparation, and authentic recruiting insights to middle school and high school athletes.

What is the difference between your Youth (4th–6th) and Circuit (7th–17U) programs?

2

Developmental Stage (4th–6th Grade): Focused on foundational skill acquisition, basketball IQ, proper footwork, and loving the game. Teams are led by qualified parent or staff coaches using a standardized, director-designed practice curriculum.

Circuit / High School Stage (7th–17U): Focused on high school varsity prep and college exposure. Teams are led exclusively by proven AAU/collegiate-experienced head coaches and compete on the regional and national RecruitLook Hoops Circuit.

What does a typical week look like during the season?

3

Most teams practice 2 times per week for 75 to 90 minutes per session at Mid Missouri Sports Park. Practice days and evening time slots are scheduled well in advance so families can plan around school and homework.

Can my child play Phantom Hoops and still participate in other sports (e.g., football, baseball, soccer)?

4

Yes, especially in the 4th through 8th grade divisions. We strongly support multi-sport participation for young athletes. However, we ask that families communicate schedules early with their head coach so we can plan roster rotations accordingly. For our upper-level Circuit teams (9th–17U), basketball becomes a higher priority during peak tournament windows to honor team commitments and college scouting opportunities.

How far do teams travel for tournaments?

5

Youth Teams (4th–6th): Travel is primarily local and regional (within 1 to 2 hours of Columbia/Mid-Missouri, such as St. Louis or Kansas City).

Circuit Teams (7th–17U): Travel includes premier regional showcase events across the Midwest (e.g., Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana) on the RecruitLook Hoops Circuit.

Is playing time guaranteed on a Phantom Hoops team?

6

4th–6th Grade: Playing time is structured to ensure every player receives fair, meaningful game experience in every contest, provided they attend practices and maintain a positive attitude.

7th–17U (Circuit Teams): Playing time is earned, not guaranteed. Roster rotations are based on practice performance, game match-ups, attitude, defensive effort, and tactical execution. Our primary goal at this level is competing at a high standard and putting players in positions to succeed in front of high school and college evaluators.

How does Phantom Hoops help my son get recruited by college coaches?

10

We do not sell false promises or empty recruiting packages. Instead, we offer:

  • Direct Collegiate Relationships: Honest evaluation and guidance from staff who have actively recruited at the Division I and high-major levels.

  • Circuit Platform: Competition on recognized exposure platforms (RecruitLook Hoops Circuit) where college evaluators and scouting services are actively present.

How do coaches communicate with parents during the season?

11

All official team communications—practice adjustments, tournament schedules, gym locations, and roster announcements—are delivered through our centralized team messaging app and email system.

We enforce a strict 24-Hour Rule. Parents are asked to wait 24 hours after a game before contacting a coach to discuss playing time, strategy, or game decisions. This ensures discussions remain constructive, rational, and focused on the athlete's growth.
